WDIY 88.1 Lehigh Valley Community Public Radio
Studio Sessions - Volume 2

Artist: Various Artists
Release Date: 2001
Label: Bummer Tent Records
#BT879261

A compilation recording of some of today's most talented acoustic-based musicians while performing at WDIY-FM. Studio Sessions, volume 2 is a tribute to artists on the road working hard to bring their music to a wider audience. While en route to regional venues, folks like Cliff Eberhardt, Jez Lowe, Slaid Cleaves and Caroline Aiken stopped by our studios to do an interview on either Acoustic Eclectic or The Blend, locally produced music programs on 88.1FM. There also are tracks from Louise Taylor who performs in the Lehigh Valley often, and Willie Porter, who toured with Jethro Tull this year. We've also selected material from bands including Night Sun, Frisbie, Zen for Primates, Blackwater, Simple Gifts and Acoustic Syndicate. Music of these duos and trios makes this a nice compliment to WDIY's previous release of singer-songwriters on Studio Sessions, Volume 1. Volume 2 contains 18 tracks of unique in-studio performances that chronicles some special musical moments in the life of a busy musician or band. Proceeds from the sale of this CD directly benefit WDIY-FM.

Romantica - Liner Notes:
Music provides the soundtrack to our lives. Every couple knows what happens when "they're playing our song." Music somehow captures the most complex emotional states, the most mysterious moments of a relationship. In a few minutes you can relive the best or the worst moments of your lives together.

I got my first kiss while Dominico Modugno crooned "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare)" and rocked the night away to "Oye Como Va" before I knew who Tito Puente was. Music, like love, is a universal language, and this compilation has 11 international love letters that run the gamut from passionate love to transcendent spiritual love that holds every thing alive in its hands. --- J. Poet

Although Romantica - Great Love Songs From Around the World has a title that suggests it could be sold on cable TV at 3:00 in the morning, such is not the case. Released to commemorate Valentine's Day, the latest compilation from Putumayo explores the diverse ways in which people express love. Romantica boasts 11 artists representing nine countries, including Scotland, Greece, Brazil, and Nigeria. The featured artists draw on traditional elements as well as Western pop forms, resulting in a thoroughly enjoyable record. Of special note are the selections by Toshi Reagon and Majek Fashek that were recorded especially for this release. --- Annette C. Eshleman Dirty Linen
